American Airlines According to an internal video watched by CNBC, CEO Robert Isom said Thursday that the airline offered pilots a total salary increase of about 17% under the new contract.
The latest proposal to the Union Pilot Association, a pilot union, was announced less than a week after its rivals. United Airlines And within 18 months, the pilot union reached a tentative agreement that included a total salary increase of over 14%.
United was the first major US airline in the industry to reach that point in the pandemic, but it’s far from closing. The union said Thursday that it could suspend a briefing session for pilots who had to ratify the deal and appreciate the new US pitch.
Earlier this month, Isom said American Airlines would make a new offer to about 15,000 pilots once United’s transaction details were announced.
America’s latest proposal is coming especially for small regional airlines when the industry is suffering from a shortage of pilots. At the same time, travel demand is skyrocketing, with many airlines stalling, especially during peak travel times.
The union also weighs the effects of sky height inflation It reached 8.6% in contract negotiations last month.
American’s proposal includes a 6% increase at the time of signing and a 5% increase at the beginning of 2023 and 2024.
“United has put out industry-leading wages, and we have matched it for our team,” Isom said in a video message Thursday, citing pilot wage rates. The difference in percentages is due to the high salaries of United Pilots.
Isom said Americans are proposing a 50% premium for reassignments, including for other salary increases for training and for reserve crew members. He said there are other incentives, such as retroactive payments, if the agreement is ratified by September 30.
“Prompt trading helps strengthen our training program and enable us to continue to grow,” he said.
American Airlines captain and union spokesman Dennis Tagger said the APA is considering the proposal.
The relationship between APA and Americans is one of the most annoying things in the industry. The union has repeatedly complained about other quality of life issues, such as tiredness from tight schedules, schedule changes, and issues that the next contract wants to address.
American pilots picketed to protest the lack of working conditions and progress in negotiations.
Pilot Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines When Delta Air Lines I also picket for the same reason. Delta pilots recently picketed at airports around the United States on Thursday, but all three are in talks.
Earlier this week, American Airlines regional airline Emboy Air was piloted. Triple pay CNBC reported earlier this week that it picked up an open trip in July.
The Airline Pilot Association, a United pilot union, said next week it would hold a special meeting to assess the impact of the US proposal on its own interim agreement, suspending the city hall and other presentations.
“We will not rush to make a decision, but will act as a unified organization to find the best course of action for the entire pilot group,” the union said in a statement late Thursday.
