But one of his most stressful moments of the year had nothing to do with software or macroeconomics.
In April, Farquhar spent a night of delicious food and entertainment with his friends while in Las Vegas for a company meeting. He just flew from Sydney, Australia and helped launch Atlassian 20 years ago.
That night he saved the man’s life.

The event was scheduled to start on April 5th. Three nights ago, Farquhar went out with a friend who had moved from Australia to the United States.
They had dinner together and found a table next to the dance floor of the Omnia Nightclub at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. The club was full, but it became thinner as the night went on.
Early in the morning, Farquhar crossed the dance floor on his way to the bathroom. At that time, he noticed that the man was lying on his back. To Falkhar, the man appeared dead. After experiencing several first aid classes as a scout in Australia for 10 years, Farquhar received some training on what to do in such a scenario.
He went down to the floor next to the man and touched his cheeks to see if he was breathing. He wasn’t. There was no visible chest movement in him.
Under strobe lights and intense music, Farquhar began performing CPR until the club’s bouncer approached and instructed him to stop.
“Well, you do that,” recalled Farquhar’s answer.
They told him to move on. A representative of Omnia’s parent, Tao Group Hospitality, said the club did not comment on the “incident involving guests.”
Farquhar performed chest compressions and breathing associated with CPR. He practiced many times, but he was only a doll and never practiced with others.
The party came to see. The music has stopped. Falkhar bowed next to the man and made a rumbling noise. Some people were yelling at Farquhar. Others were trying to help. He remembered that it was overwhelming.
A man with plastic gloves and a shirt with a medical insignia have arrived. The medical staff went down to the dance floor. He started pulling his tools out of his bag.
Then the man on the floor woke up. He stood up. But his face was colorless and his breathing was rough, Farquhar said. The medical staff took the man in a wheelchair.
“He was the deadst person I’ve ever seen,” Farquhar said.
Farquhar stood up and tried to handle what was happening now.
“Hey, you just saved the man’s life,” the guard told him.
Another bouncer walked in and asked for Farquhar’s ID. He gave his passport to the guards. The guards guided Farquhar to a dark shipping dock outside the club and returned his documents.
“It’s okay, I’m lost,” the guard said.
Farquhar then called a hospital in Las Vegas to find out if there was a hospital that had a person who matched the description of the man in the club. He couldn’t find a match. CNBC has not been able to identify the man.
Farquhar finally heard that the man survived after having a heart attack.
“That’s why I did the right thing,” Farquhar said. twenty two% Atlassian stock is worth over $ 10 billion.
When he reunited with a friend outside the club, Farkhar said he thought he had saved someone’s life. His friend, trained to be a doctor, had no idea what had happened.
“Yes, we always do that in the hospital,” he replied with a tap on his arm.
Farquhar remembered his friend asking if he wanted another drink. He refused.
“I couldn’t save the man’s life without scout training, and I encourage everyone to look for a first aid class near you,” a statement provided to CNBC after this article was published. Farquhar wrote in. “If you’re lucky, you don’t have to use them, but you can save lives if you want.”
