On Friday, CNBC’s Jim Cramer urged investors to make thoughtful decisions about their portfolios as the new earnings season begins next week.
“It’s a big week. It’s the first of three. Brave yourselves and heed the call. Don’t act unless you’re sure. About what has just been reported, It’s very difficult to be sure.” His 5 Rules of Earnings Season.
In the highly anticipated earnings season, the biggest companies in technology, retail and consumer goods report quarterly earnings.

Tuesday: General Electric, 3M, Union Pacific, Microsoft
- The fourth quarter 2022 earnings call is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. ET.Conference Call at 8:00 AM ET
- Projected EPS: $1.15
- Projected revenue: $21.25 billion
The company “should show why it wants to be in the energy sector. It’s the next spin-off after healthcare, but all we really want is a booming aerospace business,” he said.

Cramer said 3M’s dividend yield of about 5% isn’t enough given the litigation risk from lawsuits against 3M.

The company’s earnings call should provide insight into the state of American commerce, Cramer said.

Cramer said he expects the company to have a strong quarter.

He said he likes equities coming into the quarter because it’s a defensive play with a strong yield of 4.7%.

Earnings calls will show whether battered enterprise software stocks will recover this year, he said.
Thursday: Dow, Southwest Airlines

- Projected EPS: 58 cents
- Projected revenue: $12.05 billion
Cramer said the company’s stock “looks like a buy.”

- Expected loss: 7 cents per share
- Projected revenue: $6.22 billion
The company is no longer one of the best airlines, he said.
Friday: american express

“American Express is great. ‘Life is too short’ I will play,” he said.
