Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, he announced Sunday.
“I hear people talking about leadership in our country. I’m sure people want leaders who appeal to America’s best, not just America’s worst instincts.”
Hutchinson said his experiences, messages and hopes for the future will resonate with Americans. He said he plans to campaign and be “anywhere” once he officially announces his bid for the presidency later this month.

Hutchinson has been governor of Arkansas since 2015 and has positioned himself as an alternative to Trump. His successor, Trump’s former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was sworn into office on Jan. 10 and given the freedom to pursue a challenge for the presidency.
