jetblue airlines To address the shortage of air traffic controllers, the company is preparing to significantly reduce the number of weekly flights in the New York City area this spring and summer.
Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration announced a new plan To avoid a recurrence of flight disruptions in 2022, airlines will reduce flight requirements for take-off and landing rights by up to 10% to avoid congestion in the New York City area and Washington, D.C. “We don’t want to pull flights. I’m sure no airline wants to pull flights,” Hayes said in an interview with CNBC ahead of an event at New York’s Economic Club. “But if we don’t cut them, the system will fail this summer.”
Staffing shortages and possible schedule cuts in the region highlight the difficulties airlines face in increasing capacity as travel demand recovers in the wake of the pandemic lull.

Hayes said the latest measures are particularly impactful for New York City-based JetBlue. That’s because most of the company’s flights take off from, land in, or pass through New York City’s airspace.
