LONDON – A U.K. minister significantly resigned on Monday with the government’s fraud management in an urgent situation COVID 19 business loan scheme.
Theodore Agnew, minister for transformation plus productivity, stopped on location in the home of Lords, informing lawmakers that counter fraud steps for the Bounce Back Loan pattern had been “nothing under anxiously inadequate.”
The scheme saw much more than £47 billion given to small businesses in a bid to push away collapses throughout the pandemic. But federal watchdog the National Audit Office estimated that over £4 billion of that total might have been fraudulently claimed and also said the company department had “prioritized transaction velocity over just about all other elements of value for money.”
To announce the exit Monday of his, Agnew said the U.K.’s Treasury seemed to have little interest or “no understanding in the implications of fraud to our society.” or economic system.
A Downing Street spokesperson said: “We are pleased to Lord Agnew for the considerable contribution he’s created to government.”
Their resignation comes as Boris Johnson faces pressure from a lot of his M.P.s with a raft of allegations which rule-breaking parties have been kept in No. ten Downing Street throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Agnew, who was applauded in the home of Lords as he quit, stated his resignation was “not an assault on the top minister” or even connected to that particular scandal. He stated he was sorry for any inconvenience the exit would cause.
