public prosecutor new york city pointed out to the former president’s lawyer donald trump that he could face criminal prosecution in connection with paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels on his behalf before the 2016 presidential election; new report said Thursday.

The newspaper said the reporter had spoken to four people with knowledge of the situation.
Two of Trump’s attorneys confirmed to NBC News that they were told by a lawyer that Trump could appear before a grand jury. Lawyers said such offers were standard and no subpoena had been issued to compel his appearance.
They disputed the Times report that criminal charges could be filed.
In 2018, Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, paid Daniels $130,000 just before the 2016 election over her allegations of one sexual attempt with Trump years earlier. He admitted to being silent.
Trump, who is running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has denied having sex with Daniels.
A spokesperson for President Trump told NBC News, “The Manhattan District Attorney’s threat to indict President Trump is insane.”
